The Vibe
The internal ambience is modern and upbeat, with atmospheric bare stone walls, polished wood floor, comfy alcove seating, smart lighting and designer furniture, enhanced by ever-changing art and photography exhibitions. 'A real New York vibe - right here in Edinburgh!'

There's always a wide audience age-range, a diverse assortment of music fans, tourists, locals, musicians, and students. Even those who do not regard themselves as 'jazz fans' enjoy the great live performance atmosphere.

As well as regularly featuring Scotland's top jazz performers, some world-famous jazz names have played here, eg US sax gurus Ravi Coltrane & Jerry Bergonzi, US jazz/funk drummers Lenny White (Chick Corea), Jojo Mayer, Billy Hart and Omar Hakim (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Sting, Madonna etc), London sax star Peter King, US bassist Buster Williams (Miles Davis, Art Blakey), and US Hammond Organ genius Tony Monaco, plus many others.

Opening Times/Access/Age Restriction
Open Mon-Fri 5pm, Sat 2.30pm, Sun 7.30pm.
Close 3am nightly (or is that 'morning'?) - except in August, when we have a 2-hour Festival extension (bar to 5am!)

Our Edinburgh City Council Licence states that under-18s are not admitted after 8pm, and we are not allowed to admit under-14s at any time. However, accompanied 'young adults' (14-17) can come to the Saturday afternoon Jazz gigs, or the 'Teatime Acoustic' sessions, up to 8pm.

It is our regret that due to the nature of the (old) basement premises, access is by stairs down, and there is no space for any form of disabled access. Also there's no disabled toilet. We sincerely apologise for this, but there's nothing we can do about it.
It would be possible to carry a wheelchair with occupant down/up the stairs. City Council Regulations state that wheelchair users will have to be accompanied by able assistants who will remain with them at all times, and be ready to carry the chair plus occupant down and back up the stairs.
